Frequently Asked Questions...

  • Is Independence Blue Cross/Keystone Health Plan East the same as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield?
No, they are not the same, unfortunately. Some KHPE plans are HMOs and those plans generally do not carry out of network benefits. POS (Point of Service) Plans often have Out of Network Deductibles, which allow for reimbursement from an out-of-network provider once the deductible is reached.

  • What are superbills?
Superbills are itemized receipts that can be submitted to an insurance company to be added to your deductible or for reimbursement at your plans allowable rate once you have met your deductible. I can submit our claims to your insurance company for you to receive direct reimbursement, if you provide me with your insurance information. I also email thse statements out monthly for clients who choose to submit on their own.

  • What can I expect from our first session?
I consider our first session a consultation/orientation of sorts where I'll go over session structure, treatment duration, background about my therapeutic orientation, how to get and make the most out of sessions-get to know each other a bit, before we "jump in".

  • How long do people stay in counseling?
I recommend that clients attend on a weekly basis for 4-6 weeks and then we assess frequency of visits together. I have clients that I see weekly, bi/tri-weekly, monthly, quarterly for maintenance or just briefly.

  • Is the office ADA accessible?
Yes, there is an elevator inside the building, but there are several steps with railings outside. Unfortunately, there isn't a ramp.

  • What are the ages of clients that you treat?
The styles of counseling I practice are most suited for individuals 16 and older.
